Len S. Smith is Transformative’s Principal Counsel, overseeing all of Transformative’s operations. Len brings over 20 years of strategic and hands-on legal experience to Transformative. Prior to Transformative, Len was the Chief Business and Legal Officer of Heliae, a cutting edge industrial biotechnology company focused on human and animal health, plant agriculture, and manufacturing technology. Len also held roles as VP of Business and Legal Affairs / Chief IP Counsel for Valeant Pharmaceuticals and Medicis Pharmaceuticals and Corporate IP Counsel at Novo Nordisk. In these roles, Len oversaw extensive IP litigation, licensing, and IP portfolio management activities. Len holds a J.D. from Washington University, an MBA, and technical degrees in biology, environmental science, and information systems management. Len also has completed internships with the Office of the Vice President of the United States, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and is certified in Regulatory Affairs and Quality. Len has been repeatedly recognized for his accomplishments in IP and law. Len is currently a US registered patent attorney and also licensed by the States of Arizona and Illinois. Throughout his career Len has continually aspired to improve legal processes, which provided the inspiration for him to help form and manage Transformative.
